Athens Volunteer Fair Set for September 18

UGA students and community members are invited to attend.

The ninth annual Athens Volunteer Fair will be held Sept. 18 from 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the University of Georgia Tate Student Center’s Grand Hall.

The event will introduce students to volunteer opportunities with dozens of campus-based service groups as well as Athens-area nonprofit, social service and government agencies.

The fair is co-sponsored by UGA’s Center for Leadership and Service, HandsOn Northeast Georgia, Community Connection of Northeast Georgia and the Athens Banner-Herald. Admission is also open to members of the local community.

Danny Bounds, senior coordinator for the Center for Leadership and Service, said student volunteers gain more than just the sense of satisfaction that comes with helping others.

“Getting students involved in community service builds their social awareness and ultimately improves their life skills and self-image,” he said. “People who begin volunteer work in high school or college carry the spirit of service for their entire lives.”
