Stories Everywhere This Week in Athens

Both UGA and Athens' public schools are back in session today.

Monday, January 6
Storytime for infants resumes at the ACC Library at 10:30am. From 4 to 5:30pm, teenage and tween chess players can head to the library's multipurpose room A to improve their chess skills. And then at 7:00pm, children of all ages can come for story time, along with their parents.

At 7:30pm, it's Open Mic Night at Hendershot's, so warm up and head out.

Tuesday, January 7
Storytime for toddlers and their care givers at the ACC Library is at 9:30 and 10:30am. Be prepared to dance, sing and clap.

The Mayor and ACC Commission meet at 7pm in the City Hall Chambers for their monthly voting meeting. For an agenda, click here.

Wednesday, January 8
From 4 to 6pm at the State Botanical Garden, you can learn about Georgia Geology. The two hour class will focus  on the rocks of Georgia's six geologic provinces. This is the first of a series of classes that runs through the end of February. 

Athens Creative Theatre is currently taking registrations for Monologues & More! at 4:30pm. The program is for teens and adults.

Rabbit Box, Jr., at the Melting Point, with the theme "The Year is Young." The show begins at 6pm. Participants will be young storytellers, some of them telling stories for the first time about their lives.

Thursday, January 9
The Athens Newcomers Club meets at 9:30am at Central Presbyterian Church, 380 Alps Road.

A 2nd Thursday concert at Hugh Hodsgon Concert Hall at UGA features Distinguished Professor of Piano Evgeny Rivkin, who will play classical and romantic compositions. Tickets are $18 for the general public, $5 for students.

Athens Creative Theatre is currently registering participants for the ACTing Workshop. This program is designed for participants ages 8-11 and will equip them with theatrical skills that they can apply to performance and every day life. Class begins on January 9 at 4:30pm. 

“Memphis,” the 2010 Tony® Award Winner for Best Musical, is coming to The Classic Center Theatre on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
