Volunteer Fair, Health Fair, Tech Talk, Dance Performance and Much More

October in Athens remains stuffed with events and activities.

On Monday, October 14, Mayor Nancy Denson, with help from idea originator Tommy Valentine, launches her "Mayor's Call to Service" at the Georgia Theatre. The event runs from 6 to 9pm. There will be music by the Classic City Band, and lots of volunteer-needy groups who will be happy to see you.

On Wednesday, October 16, The College of Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association invite you to help celebrate American Pharmacists Month at the 11th Annual Health Fair - DAWGTOBERFEST: Rx for Good Health.
Come enjoy the festivities at the UGA College of Pharmacy.

On Tuesday, October 15, at 4:30pm, Four Athens is sponsoring Tech Talk at the UGA's Science Library in Boyd Graduate Studies on campus. You can meet and network with local talent.

On Wednesday, October 16, staff from the ACC Leisure Services Department will lead Wednesday's Walkers, leaving Rocksprings Park at 9am. The walk is for people 50 and older and will last about an hour. The cost is $1, and you've got to register by calling 706 613-3602. 

It's time for the fall show of DanceFX's Modern Pin-Ups at the 40 Watt Club on Wednesday, October 16, at 8pm.  Tickets are $5.

The Mayor and Commission hold their monthly agenda setting meeting on Thursday, October 17, at 7pm in the chambers of City Hall. All are welcome and there is a possibility for public comment.

Write Club Athens holds its monthly meeting on Thursday, October 17, at 8:30pm, at the World Famous. Come, watch writers go mano-a-mano, metaphorically speaking. Cost is $10. Proceeds go to the winner's favorite charity. Supporters call the event "high octane brain boxing."

The Center for Financial Literacy at Piedmont College in Athens will hold two free seminars for new investors. At 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, “How to Get Started Investing Using Mutual Funds” will cover types of mutual funds, costs, advantages and disadvantages. A second seminar will be held at 6pm on Monday, October 28. Business professor Bob Perrella will led both seminars in the Commons Room 107-West at the Piedmont Athens campus located at 595 Prince Ave.
