Work Sessions, Meetings and Dirty Dance

The Athens Federation of Neighborhoods meets tonight at 7pm in the Firehall Building on Prince Avenue. The main topic of discussion will be SPLOST, so expect to learn about tax money and projects.

The Athens Cultural Affairs Commission meets from 6pm to 8pm today in the Chamber of Commerce Building on Hancock Avenue. If you want to become more involved in the arts in Athens, it's a good place to start.
Also today, there's a meeting at Gaines Elementary on the new precinct lines and election day precincts. The meeting rums from 6 to 7pm.

Make plans to attend Dirty Dance Family Party next Saturday at Little Kings. The family friendly event starts at 6:30 and runs until 9, with dance performances and ample opportunities for you and your children to hula hoop and shake your way into some fun. The suggested donation of $5 per adult and $3 per child benefits Keep Athens Clarke County Beautiful.

On Tuesday, the Athens Downtown Development Authority meets at 3pm in the Chamber of Commerce Building. If you want an update on the downtown master plan, this is the place to get it. At 5:30pm on Tuesday the Mayor and Commission have a work session in the Dougherty Street building. It's not televised, but, like all government meetings, it is open to the public.

There's a lecture on "Terrorism, Soft Targets and What you need to Know" on Wednesday at 3pm in the reception hall of the Tate Student Center. Also on Wednesday at 5:30pm, enjoy Zumba in the Garden, the State Botanical Garden.

On September 12, The Ecofocus Film Festival is sponsoring at Cine a sneak peek of "Blackfish," a film which shows what happens when killer whales are kept in captivity." The movie starts at 6:30pm and is sponsored not only by Ecofocus but also by Speak Out for Species and Cine.
