I love Avid! My oldest son just turned 12 yesterday and received 3 Avid books from various family members. I was unsure of what to buy him and contacted Janet. When I arrived the next day she had put aside 3 books that she thought he would like based on his reading taste, science fictiony, not violent, not romantic, somewhat historical. How can she know him so well? Just incredible. I picked one and ordered another book for my middle son. The next day as wwe were walking home from birthday dinner, Tom comes out of the store to tell me the book had arrived! How is that for service? Avid is awesome!

Every town needs its own indie bookstore. It took Janet Geddis years to open Avid Bookshop's brick and morter store and many neighbors were key components with sweat equity and overall encouragement. This tiny bookstore's huge historic windows reveal beautiful views of the T. R. R. Cobb House from Emmanuel Episcopal Church from the front. Thirty percent of the store is dedicated to children's books and the permanent art installation of the Book Balloon designed and created by local artist Krysia Haag will guarantee your child is happy reading while you browse.

By far the GREATEST bookshop in Athens, Georgia. The staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy. With an inventory consisting of 30% children's books, the shop is kid-friendly. Adults will love the well-organized shelves and broad topics the expansive collections of books cover. Goodies are sold to make sure that customers are refreshed as they shop (think a custom Jittery Joe's Avid Bookshop coffee blend and Jarrito's Mexican Sodas). Step into this bookshop and you will fall in love. Support your local independent bookshop.

If you're looking for a summer read that is both stimulating and and completely engrossing, Avid has received copies of Hilary Mantel's two books centered around King Henry VIII's court: Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies. Of all the books, TV shows, and movies based around the court of King Henry VIII, Hilary Mantel's work is by far some of the most well-done. Hilary Mantel tells this well-known story through the eyes of Thomas Cromwell, a chief minister to the king. The writing is utterly captivating, dark and and haunting at times. You will not be able to put it down.
