81-Year-Old's Souped-Up Plane Hits Car at Athens Airport

The plane's new engine was too strong for its brakes, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

An 81-year-old Athens man spent years honing a new engine for his home-built airplane, but when he tried it out at Ben Epps airport, the rest of the plane couldn't handle it. Too strong for its own brakes, the plane crashed into a car and hangar at the airport on Monday, the Athens Banner-Herald reports. The propeller lopped off the car's roof, and the crash resulted in minor damage to the hangar. The plane was seriously damaged, too, the paper reports. No charges were filed, according to the article.
