Alleged Shoplifter from Athens Accused of Hitting Woman Twice with Car at Oconee Walmart

Another Athens woman reportedly punched a store security guard when he confronted the two suspects Tuesday evening. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An Athens woman accused of trying to steal less than $100 worth of clothing from Walmart on Epps Bridge Parkway is behind bars also facing a charge of aggravated assault for allegedly striking a customer twice with her getaway car. Oconee County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.  The woman who reportedly had been struck by the car was lying on the ground in the parking lot and her left leg was bleeding, according to an incident report. The injured woman, 38, told deputies she saw two women fighting with a store security guard outside and she tried to stop them. That's when, she says, the suspects hopped into a car and the driver placed it in reverse and backed into her. She then approached the driver's …

Weird Police News: Tire Slashing, Baseball Batting, Pepper Spraying and Dog Attacking

There are a lot of ways to attack and defend, and Northeast Georgia villains and victims have tried most.

When some people are after you, resisting is a good idea. An Athens man smacked an intruder with a baseball bat after the guy kicked his door in, and the guy ran away with his door-kicking friends. A woman in Norcross beat back a man who sprayed her with pepper spray and then tried to choke her while she cleaned a hotel room. Her quick thinking helped get her to safety. But when the police are after you, resisting generally leads to more trouble. A Barrow County man whose dogs attacked officers trying to arrest him lost his dogs in that exchange. Running from the police might also lead you to end up in a tree with a deputized dog on your tail, which is what happened to a possible burglary suspect in Oconee County. It's better, if you're …

Food Crimes of Passion and More Strange Police News

Don't mess with a man's cheeseburger in North Georgia.

A man learned the hard way that you can't exchange your half-eaten double cheeseburger for a McDouble at the Winder McDonald's. When he tried, police said, he used a lot of profanity, upsetting employees and customers. So he was charged with disorderly conduct. Also in Winder, a man reported a rack of ribs stolen after a domestic dispute with his girlfriend. The melee also resulted in missing liquor, smeared beans and broken eyeglasses. A domestic dispute in Dacula led to a man's claim that the woman who used to live with him has been stealing his mail since he threatened to evict her. She's also alleged to have called him a "bad person." A silver pitcher, a China plate and some coins were among the missing items after a family left their …
