Man Steals Groceries, Puts Items in Other Man's Cart in Athens, Ga.

  An Athens man was arrested Monday after being accused of stealing $44 worth of groceries from Walmart and putting them in another man's cart, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.  An employee of the Lexington Road Walmart told police that he witnessed the man putting items into plastic Walmart bags while talking to a customer. The man then started putting his bags into the man's cart. The custormer appeared unaware of what was going on, according to the employee. Cager Cheek, 35, was arrested, charged with shoplifting and barred from Walmart for two years. He was transported to Clarke County Jail.

Man Arrested for Peeping Tom Behavior

  An Athens man was arrested and charged with being a peeping tom after he was reported peeping at Clearwater Creek Cottages, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.  Several women called police and reported that a man was looking into windows in the Clearwater Creek Cottages area. Police found the man they described near North Stratford Drive. The officer noticed he frequently looked over his shoulder as he walked near the residences and was walking through the bushes behind the residences where there was no footpath leading to another area.  After the officer approached Lorenzo Stephenson, 51, Stephenson said he was looking for a friend's vehicle, although he could not say where his friend lived or what his vehicle looked …

Man Demands Dollar, Then Steals Cell Phone from Man's Car

An unknown person allegedly stole an Athens' man's cellphone Tuesday after demanding a dollar from the man and threatening to shoot him, according to an Athens Clarke County Police report.  The man told police that he was leaving Perry's Liquor Store on Lexington Road when a man in a dark green Honda demanded a dollar. When he laughed at the man, the person in the dark green Honda got out and followed him. At one point the victim spat on the ground and the man allegedly said "you spat at me." As the victim got into his car, the man following him opened the door and demanded money. He said he had a gun, although the victim said he didn't believe the man did. Derogatory Names Scratched on Woman's Car While She Runs Errands

An Athens woman's car had deragatory names scratched into it while she was visiting people and running errands near Nellie B. Avenue Thursday, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report. The woman told police that while she was running errands, some unknown suspects scratched "bi---" into the driver's rear door and "hoe" was scratched into the hood. The officer noted that every painted surface on the car had scratches on it. The investigation is ongoing.

Burglars Steal Ebenezer Baptist Community Center's Frozen Turkeys in Athens, Ga.

  Though Thanksgiving has passed, the Ebenezer Baptist Community Center on North Chase Street had two frozen turkeys stolen during a burglary earlier this week, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.  A man who worked with the Community Center told police that he found the latch broken and the door pried open when he came to the community center later on Monday. The turkeys seemed to be the only things that had flown the coop, so to speak. No arrests have been made. 

Sorority Security Guard Has Handcuffs, Wife's Purse Stolen

  A security guard for the Kappa Delta sorority house had his handcuffs and several other items stolen from his vehicle Tuesday morning while he was patrolling on foot, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report. The guard told police that he left his vehicle to do rounds at about 1:50 am. Central Label Products Employee Finds Cleaning Chemical in Water Bottle

  An employee of Central Label Products found a cleaning chemical in his water bottle Thursday, according to an Athens Clarke County Police report. The employee called police after he smelled the chemical ethyl acetate in his water bottle. He had ingested a small amount before realizing the chemical was possibly in the water bottle.  Poison control assured police that the small amount consumed would not do any damage. Police were unable to determine how the chemical contaminated the water bottle. 

Bullet Fired Through Woman's Ceiling in Athens, Ga.

  A bullet was fired through a woman's apartment ceiling Thursday night, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.  The woman told police that at about 1 a.m. she heard gunfire from what sounded like outside. The next morning she found a bullet lying next to the kitchen wall and a bullet hole in her ceiling.  Police suspect the person in the apartment above the woman's apartment of shooting the gun, but he was not home when the landlord accompanied officers into the his apartment. A matching hole was found where the bullet went through the apartment's floor.  The bullet was collected for evidence. No arrests were made.

Car Thieves Steal Library Audio Books in Athens, Ga.

  Several audiobooks from the Athens-Clarke County Library were reported stolen Monday from a woman's vehicle, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police Report. The woman told police that some time between Nov. 6 and Nov. 8, someone took three audiobooks and a CD from the passenger seat of her car. The books were "1776" by David McCollough, "Infected" by Scott Sigler and "The Chess Machine" by Robert Lohr and Andrea Bell. The car was possibly unlocked at the time of the theft. No suspects were named.

Publix Beer Bandit Strikes Again in Athens, Ga.

  An unknown person who has stolen beer repeatedly from the Publix on Gaines School Road reportedly stole seven more cases last week, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report. Public officials reported that on Nov. 7, an unknown person came to Publix and stole six cases of Budweiser and one case of Corona. Afterwards, he left in a black 1996 Jeep Cherokee. Several reports have been filed against the same suspect, who usually arrives in different vehicles. I know a guy (not going to mention any names) living in Auburn GA (just outside of Athens) who regularly swipes beer from stores. He's been known to swipe other items too, but just for sport. He's been banned from his local Ingle's, a Kangaroo station, and several other area establishments for doing this.
