Attorney Confirms William Wilson Heaton is the Hit-and-Run Suspect in Athens, Ga.

Police continue gathering evidence against the suspect, but haven't yet made any arrests in the accident on Oconee Street.

Emily Bowman lies in a hospital bed in Athens Regional, recovering from severe injuries she sustained in a hit-and-run accident on Feb. 16. The man suspected of hitting her, and then leaving the scene of the accident, is William Wilson Heaton, 22, of Cartersville. He has yet to be arrested but does have an attorney who has been in touch with Athens Clarke County Police, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald. The police have logged hundreds of hours, trying to piece together the events of the night for Heaton, through interviews and camera footage, to establish where he was, and when, and what he was doing. Willie Nelson & Family Are Coming to the Georgia Theatre on Jan. 30 in Athens, Ga.

The musical legend will take the stage at 9:30pm.

  Willie Nelson and Family are coming to Athens on January 30, playing at the Georgia Theatre. The event is sponsored by 106.1 WNGC. Born in 1933 in Texas, Willie Nelson shows no signs of slowing down as he approaches his 80th birthday. He is touring and recording like crazy, collaborating and gathering accolades and honors. There's only one bad thing about his coming to Athens. Even with tickets at $75.00, the show is sold out.

Athens Bulldog Swim Club Logs Two More Meets

Swimmers did well in the competitions.

  Athens Bulldog Swim Club athletes competed at two meets, January 11-13 and 18-20.  Thirty-seven swimmers attended the City of Atlanta Dolphins’ Martin Luther King, Jr., Invitational on the first weekend, while a smaller contingent traveled to Georgia Tech for the Winter Kickoff on the following weekend.  Many members obtained qualifying times for the upcoming 14 & under Georgia Short Course State Swim Meet.  Finishing in top three slots Friday night at MLK were Caleb Camus, Gabbie Filipov, Will Foggin, Brynn Halbach, Kate Holbrook, John Morgan McDonald and Dhruv Prakash.  Those medaling in more heavily attended Saturday or Sunday events included Caleb Camus (10) – 3rd in 9-10 boys’ 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke; Caedmon …

Trappeze Pub in Athens, Ga., Named One of the Best Beer Pubs in America

The designation was made by Draft magazine.

  Trappeze Pub, the cozy corner place at West Washington and Hull street, is popular with residents, students, visitors, singles, families and everyone in between. Hilsman Middle School Academic Bowl Team in Athens, Ga., Advances to State

  Hillsman Middle School is on Gaines School Road in Athens, Ga. The Hilsman Middle School academic bowl team won all the round of the regional competition on Jan. 12 in Hartwell, Ga. They now advance to the state competition Jan. 26. Congratulations to these young women and men!

Rabbit Box: Raconteurs Perform at the Melting Point in Athens, Ga.

January's Rabbit Box features 8 storytellers.

  Rabbit Box is an evening of entertainment featuring ordinary people, a stage and a microphone that happens once a month. The people stand in front of an audience and tell a brief story about something in their lives. It's exhilirating to do--I speak from experience--and fun to hear. The crowds for Rabbit Box grew too large for an upstairs room in the Globe. So the event has moved to the Melting Point. Janary's Rabbit Box convenes this Wednesday the 16th, at 7pm.
