Kindermarket Opens on Thursday at the YMCA in Athens, Ga.

The large consignment sale features baby, children's and women's clothes, toys, books, furniture and furnishings.

One of the largest consignment sales in the Athens area is Kindermarket, which opens this Thursday to the public at 6pm at the Athens YMCA. There's a $4 admission fee for the first evening, but it's free the other two days. On Saturday, most items are half off, and the hours are 8am to noon. The children's clothes at Kindermarket are checked for tears, stains and inappropriate messages, and are grouped according to size. This week, the clothes for sale will be for colder temperatures, so expect coats, sweaters, long pants and long sleeves. The toys are checked to make sure they have all their working parts. And you can score some great furniture, rugs, lamps and other things.

Moms Talk

Shedding the Baby Weight

Apparently, all it takes to get back in shape is a little motivation and a lot of commitment.

I had high hopes that keeping up with them would do the trick. But I noticed the other day that my jeans were getting tighter instead of looser. I know that I will feel better once I start an exercise routine and make myself a priority. I look to other moms who have shed their pregnancy …

YMCA Kicks Off Journey Campaign

Annual fund-raising efforts to go directly to youth programs

The Athens YMCA recently kicked off its annual fund-raising campaign. The Journey Campaign was held at Athens First Bank and Trust and featured guest speakers, Yvette Getch and LaTasha Hardy. Both ladies are Y Moms whose children have attended afterschool and day camp programs for a number of years. Also at the kickoff were 50 YMCA volunteers and staff members, who will be making calls for donations. By the end of the year, the campaign hopes to raise $150,000 from individuals and businesses in the community. Each dollar given to the Journey Campaign goes directly to making memberships and services available to those in financial need and to enhance youth programs. "This campaign raises funds for families and children experiencing …

Mornings With Meg

It's Just So Camp Y(MCA)a'll

Athens YMCA Camp Kelley celebrates 75th anniversary as it opens May 23.

The Athens YMCA is truly one of the flagship institutions of our community. For generations it has provided a wholesome environment for youth to grow, in spirit, mind and body. It also enriches lives of adults with its diverse programs and facilities. We are blessed by its resounding presence in our city. And this year the Y is marking the 75th anniversary of Camp Kelley, nee Pine Tops…a haven for youngsters each summer. My dear friend, Janie Bush, Development Director for the Y, and her assistant, Lisa Crumley, asked if I would address the anniversary of Camp Kelley in my Patch column. Of course, I said “sho-nuff.” As I stewed over just how to spread the gospel of Pine Tops now bearing the name of its longtime director, Cobern Kelley, my …
