Athens Family Loses Home to Fire
The Red Cross is providing assistance and an account has been set up for the family at a local bank.
A family of four, two house guests and a dog escaped a burning Cleveland Road home early Saturday morning, but lost most of their possessions in the blaze. According to a story in the Athens Banner-Herald, the homeowner, David Bass of Bass Landscaping Company, sustained burns to his forehead and fingers but no one else was injured. Firefighters used pumper trucks to dump an estimated 100,000 gallons of water onto the structure, the newspaper reported, adding that the cause of the fire is under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the family and an account for the “Bass Family Fire Recovery” has been set up at Athens First Bank & Trust, according to the article.
