Man Whacks Away Intruder with Golf Club in Athens, Ga.

  Around 7am on January 6, officers responded to a burglary that had just occurred at a North Harris Street residence of a UGA student. Officers met with the 22-year-old resident who said he had been asleep when he heard a noise in the living room. He looked out of his bedroom door but did not see anything out of order so he went back to bed. A few minutes later he heard another noise. He grabbed a golf club--a 7 iron, according to the Athens Banner Herald--from his closet, entered the living room and saw a man standing there. He then noticed a flat screen TV that had been mounted on the wall was on the floor. Crime Blotter--more thieving and stealing; cars entered

  A 15 year-old young man was home alone at his Barrington Drive residence when he noticed someone outside his apartment door acting suspiciously. Seconds later, whoever it was kicked the front door open, but when the resident pushed back on the door and yelled, the intruder fled the scene. A description of the suspect was provided, and shortly afterwards, an officer made contact with a man riding a bicycle on Gaines School Road. After the man on the bicycle was positively identified, he was taken into custody. Charged with Burglary was Tyson Mohammed Barnett, 23, Forest Acres Circle, Athens.  ACCPD officers responded to a burglar alarm at Bulldog Sporting Goods at 1068 Baxter Street. Caterpillar Site Hit By Thieves

Someone stole a $15,000 ATV, among other items, from a construction site in Athens, Ga..

  Officials from Gray Construction and from Plateau Excavation—both working on the new Caterpillar site—reported a burglary at the construction site. It happened sometime between Tuesday night at 6:30 and 6am on Wednesday. According to an incident report filed with the Athens Clarke County Police Department, someone went into an unlocked storage trailer belonging to Gray Construction and took three extension cords and three gas cans. Thieves also stole a red $15,000 ATV and damaged the ignition switch of another ATV. They also stole batteries from various pieces of heavy-duty equipment. Crime Blotter--a wreck and burglaries

  A Colbert man was riding a 2002 Yamaha Chappy, heading north on Highway 29 North in the left lane. The motorcycle struck the concrete median that divides the north and south bound lanes. It continued north and went down and slid across the right north bound lane and came to rest on its left side, facing south. The rider was ejected from the vehicle.  He was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. No citations have been issued in this accident which occurred around 5:45pm on May 28 as the investigation continues.   A North Ave residence was burglarized between 4:30pm and 5pm on May 28. Crime Blotter--burglaries

  A Spring Valley Road residence was burglarized between 8:35am and 1pm on April 15.  A TV, video game console, and video games were stolen.  The total value was $545.  A witness saw a light skinned black man, slim build, 130 to 150 pounds, in the yard at the residence.  He wore a camouflage hat and blue jeans.  A Valdosta man reported that a vacant Vincent Drive residence was burglarized between midnight on February 16 and 9:40pm on April 15.  Nothing is known to be missing at this time.   Around 4:30am on April 16 a man said he was awakened by his dog growling. He believed he heard someone in his residence.  When he went downstairs, he discovered someone had pushed a chair under a window and opened the window.  Nothing is known to be …

Officers Make Cocaine Bust

The Drug Task Force headed up a busy period of police activity in Athens.

Members of the Drug Task Force found crack cocaine, marijuana, Endocet, and digital scales and packaging materials while executing a recent search warrant at 152 W. Carver Drive, according to a news release from the Athens-Clarke County Police. Dimarcus R. Curry, 26, was arrested and charged  with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule II drug with intent to distribute, and obstruction, according to police. Also arrested was Michael B. Johnson, 29, who was charged with possession of marijuana and obstruction. In other events reported by Athens-Clarke police:

Athens Crime Blotter: A Fire Station is Burglarized

Stolen firefighter gear contributes to a rash of Athens burglaries.

Here are the latest reports from the Athens-Clarke County Police: Firefighter turnout gear valued at $2,270 was stolen from a garage at Athens-Clarke County Fire Station No. 8 on Jefferson Rd.  on the night of Feb. 23. A Lexington Heights residence was burglarized overnight between Feb. 22 and Feb. 23. A TV valued at $200 was stolen. On the afternoon of Feb. 22, a North Lumpkin Street residence was burglarized.  Laptops valued at $2,000 were stolen. A Ruth Street residence was burglarized between the night of Feb. 23. A TV, jewelry, and laptop with a total value of $1,650 were stolen. Air conditioner units valued at $4,200 were stolen from a Baxter St. location  overnight from Feb. 22 to Feb. 23.
