Cassandra Norwood, 21, was arrested last fall and accused of stabbing to death her own newborn in her family home on the Eastside of Athens. She had hidden her pregnancy from her parents and allegedly hid the baby's body in a trashcan after she killed him. On Tuesday, in Clarke County Superior Court, Norwood pled not guilty to charges of malice murder for the death of the infant boy, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald. She also pled not guilty to felony murder, aggravated assault and charges of possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. Young woman hid her pregnancy from her family, authorities say.
In early November, Cassandra Norwood was arrested and charged with murder after delivering her own baby and then allegedly stabbing the child to death. The 21-year-old Cedar Shoals High School graduate--now a student at Athens Technical College-- has been jailed since a family member discovered the infant's body in a trash can at the family's eastside home. Norwood will continue to remain in the Clarke County Jail, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald. District Attorney Ken Mauldin said Norwood was likely to leave the state, according to the story. And just a few days later, police believe, 21-year-old Cassandra Norwood gave birth in her parents' Waverly Woods home, alone, and then afterwards stabbed her newborn son to death. She was transferred on Friday to the Clarke County Jail from Athens Regional, where she had gone to recover from the blood loss she experienced during the birth. Child was born at a Waverly Woods home.
Thursday night, a 21-year-old Athens woman was charged with murder after police responded to a call and found her newborn son stabbed to death. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, Cassandra Elyse Norwood gave birth to the little boy in a Waverly Woods house where she lived with her parents and other family members. She apparently gave birth by herself. Someone found the dead baby around 1pm Thursday and called police, the story says. Norwood is being treated at Athens Regional Medical Center for blood loss and is under guard there. The Judge was right to deny bond. The woman has no heart! Why didn't she take the child to an ER or firestation and leave it there! They would not have asked any questions, the baby would be safe, and the "mom" not in one bit of trouble! Now her family knows about the pregnancy and she may have to face a life in prison!
