Before Charles S. Parker was shot and his body dumped in a remote well, his last public appearance was his annual recitation of Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech at a January 15th church service in Lithonia. On the surface, this 25-year-old Lithonia native had lived the dream: he was educated and handsome, he had a good job with a bank, he was married to a beautiful woman and taught Sunday school at Anointed Word Evangelistic Tabernacle, his childhood church. Murdered assistant bank manager Charles Parker was said to be working on a poultry farm business deal with Victor Blockum at the time of his death. An article today in the Athens Banner Herald says Blockum had had various problems with law enforcement over the years. These problems include receiving 16 years of probation from a Madison County judge after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime. He had earlier been arrested in Oglethorpe County, where he was living, on an assault charge during a domestic violence incident, the article says. UPDATE: GBI officials confirmed Monday remains found in a well in Oglethorpe County belong to the missing man. Original story: Officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are asking anyone who saw Charles Steven Parker in Athens on Sunday to contact them. The 25-year-old Parker, a Bank of America manager from Monroe, had come to Athens after church on Sunday afternoon around 2pm to look at a piece of property, said Jim Fullington, special agent in charge with the GBI Athens field office. A police officer found his 2010 Chrysler 3000 around midnight on Tuesday near College Avenue and Hoyt Street, said Capt. Clarence Holman of the Athens Clarke County Police Department. The family of Charles Stephen Parker, a 25-year-old Monroe resident who went missing in Athens more than a week ago, remains hopeful that he will be found. Parker's car was found in Athens, near College Avenue and Hoyt Street, last week, around midnight on Tuesday. The family has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Parker, said Jim Fullington, special agent in charge with the GBI Athens field office. Parker is a graduate of the University of Georgia who works as an assistant manager at a Bank of America branch in Athens. His wife and he live in Monroe.
