Get TIckets On April 22 for Athens Symphony Pops Concert

The free tickets will be distributed at the Classic Center box office for the symphony's last concert of the season.

  Complimentary tickets to the May 3-4 Athens Symphony pops concert will be distributed at The Classic Center Theatre box office beginning Monday, April 22 at 10 a.m.   The pops concerts, which begin at 8 p.m. on both days, will conclude the symphony’s 2012-2013 season. Tickets are required for entry, and are limited to four per person. Regular box office hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m-1 p.m. on Saturday.  The pops concerts will feature members of the Athens Symphony Chorus. Selections from Les Misérables and other popular musical pieces will be featured. For more information on the Athens Symphony, click here.

Karl Rove Coming to GOP Convention in Athens, Ga.

The Republican strategist will be fundraising for Secretary of State Brian Kemp also during the May 17-18 weekend.

The story says: Republican strategist Karl Rove, who has riled the GOP base with a Super PAC project aimed at helping more mainstream conservatives in primaries, will be one of the featured speakers at the state GOP convention in Athens, state party Chairman Sue Everhart confirmed this morning. “He’s a good speaker whether you agree with him or not,” Everhart said. Merle Haggard Heading to Classic Center in Athens, Ga.

Tickets for the legendary singer go on sale December 7 at 10am.

California native Merle Haggard has been a household name among country music fans since 1963, when he broke into Billboard's Top 20 with "Sing Me A Sad Song." Since then, he has written hundreds of songs, which include "Sing Me Back Home," and "Okie From Muskogee." On Valentine's Day, 2013, at 7:30pm, Merle Haggard will take the stage at the Classic Center. Tickets go on sale this Friday, and range in price from $45 to $52. More than 40 of his singles have made the No. 1 position in the major trade magazines. He has released more than 65 albums, four of which have been certified gold. And Haggard has been nominated 42 times for Country Music Association awards, more than any other male country entertainer.

Voting Now Open in the Classic Center

Early voting turnout started with a bang and has continued at a steady pace.

  So you headed to the Board of Elections on your lunch hour, thinking that maybe you'd vote after finishing your sandwich. Surprise! The line looked like it was going to last more than an hour. You had to return to work. Next time, you tried City Hall, but it happened again: time ran out. Who ARE these people and why are they voting early? and why are there so many of them? You'll never learn the answers to these questions, and now you don't have to. The Clarke County Board of Elections is now offering in-person voting at the Classic Center, all this week, from 8am until 5pm. You can even park for free in the Classic Center's parking deck. Louis C.K. To Perform in Athens, Ga.

  One of the funniest people in America is coming to Athens this fall. Louis C.K. will perform live at the Classic Center on Friday, November 30. Tickets are on sale now at his website, and each one is $45. Louis C.K. has won numerous awards for his work. He’s the force—as creator, producer, director, editor and star—behind FX Network’s hit series, “Louie.” His "Hilarious" album won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album. In a statement on louisck.com from Louis, he said, “This year, I'm trying something new, building on the fun, success and fan-benefit of selling my content online … I've cut the ticket charges way down and absorbed them into the ticket price. To buy a ticket, you join NOTHING. Just use your credit card and buy the damn thing.”

Chocolate Cake Theft, Unusual Shoplifting Tactics and Late Night Drunken Golf Cart Ride

  Two Athens women attempted to return stolen clothing at the Wal-mart on Lexington Road Tuesday without first leaving the store with the stolen goods, according to Athens-Clarke County Police reports. Wal-mart officials reported that around noon Sharday Conway, 23, and Laquesha George, 19, brought several pairs of Nobo shorts and women's capris to the customer service desk after taking them from the clothing department. After Conway and George told customer service they did not have a receipt but wanted a refund, a Wal-mart representative apprehended them for shoplifting and held them in custody until authorities arrived.
