Bring Your Skates to Classic City Rollergirls' Boot Camp

  Want to join a group of fast women? The Classic City Rollergirls  are having tryouts today at Skate Around USA from 5:30 to 9pm From 6 to 10pm tonight, you can dance the Carolina Shag at Buffalo’s. Wear those soft dancing shoes and prepare to do the Shag for hours. Better yet, wear saddle shoes. Ever heard of the Sacred Harp and the Social Harp? If so, you might enjoy a session of Shaped Note Singing at First United Methodist on Tuesday from 7 to 9pm. If you’ve never been, you need to go at least once. The Lyndon House is showing “Best in Show,” a touring exhibition of award winners from the Georgia Artists with Disabilities annual juried art show. There are 47 works by 37 people, including ones by Athens resident Christopher J. Domis.  …

Rollergirls Make Exercise Exciting

Try in-line skating for your next new calorie burn.

You got to love it. The Classic City Roller Girls get their exercise in the most fun-filled way. They get to dress up in outrageous clothes, paint their faces and get any frustrations out - all in the same workout. Recently I attended the Bout against Breast Cancer. Our girls were skating against the Savannah Derby Devils. Not only did they provide entertainment to us, their featured charity was the Cancer Foundation of Northeast Georgia. During halftime, plaster breast casts from 13 skaters and community members were auctioned off. Each was a work of art that had been customized by local artists. Roller Girls work hard! They practice a total of seven hours a week as a group. Once a month they add in another two-hour group session working …
