UGA registrar’s office launches New Electronic Transcript Service

E-transcripts are now available.

The University of Georgia Office of the Registrar recently launched a new electronic request and tracking system, which is providing improved service and increased efficiency for students and alumni in need of their UGA transcripts. The new e-transcript program, which is powered by Avow Systems Inc., allows any student or alumnus with an 810 identification number to request a certified PDF of their transcripts sent either to themselves or to a third party—whether to a future employer or another school or college. Students and alumni who have been issued an 810 number can log into the new system. “Prior to launching the e-transcript service, we required our students and alumni to send us a letter on paper requesting their transcripts be …

Did you know today is The National Day of Prayer?

The National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance and is celebrated on the first Thursday in May.  The president signs a proclamation every year on this day to inspire people to pray.  Athens Patch joined along with the children of Mars Hill Preschool Academy and Mars Hill Christian Academy for their celebration of The National Day of Prayer.  Chick-fil-A @ Barnett Shoals in Athens, GA was kind enough to send Baby Cow and some sweet treats over for the celebration!  The children enjoyed releasing their prayer filled balloons into the air.

Public Humiliation as Punishment

Is public shame the best way teach children a lesson?

I have a confession to make. When I was 6 years old, I stole a handful of diapers from the grocery store for my dolls. I swiftly slipped them into my zipped up jacket and walked right out of the store without paying for them. The guilt was just too much. I confessed my mistake to my mother the moment our car pulled out of the parking lot toward home. She promptly turned the car around, marched me into the store, and forced me to return the diapers to the manager along with an apology. I was mortified but I learned my lesson. I should thank my lucky stars that my mother did not humiliate me in public as punishment for my sticky fingers. Many parents have recently resorted to forcing their children to declare their mischievous ways in …

I recently found out my 14 year old stole my ATM card and withdrew some cash out. It wasn't a lot but She decided to lie about it. She did eventually tell me she did it but only after I told her I had seen a video of her at the ATM. She has never done this before and she knows stealing is wrong so, it bothered me that she knows stealing is wrong yet she did it anyway. I have always told my kids …   more ›

Crime Blotter--fake guns, road rage and stealing

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police Department. An arrest isn't the same as a conviction.

On April 7 at 9:57pm, a driver and three passengers were stopped on Lawton Lane by three individuals, who were standing in the roadway and motioning for the driver to stop, one in possession of what was described as a black shotgun. Officers located all three suspects and seized a black plastic shotgun with pistol grips that looked real. Joshua L. Harris, 20, Cedar Shoals Drive, was charged with Terroristic Threats or Acts. On April 8 at 2:35am, a 19-year-old man from Jefferson and a man, 21, from Hull, reported that while they were sitting inside a Chevrolet Trailblazer at The Pointe Apartments on Gaines School Road, the vehicle was intentionally struck in the rear by another vehicle. The driver of this vehicle was identified as a …
