Hit-and-Run Victim Now Out of Coma, Moving to the Shepherd Center for Rehab

Emily Bowman, 19, hasn't spoken, but her eyes are open, relatives say.

  She has been off the ventilator and breathing on her own for a few days. Her eyes are open and she's responding to stimuli, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald. And now, Emily Bowman, hospitalized since a hit-and-run accident almost three weeks ago, is moving to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for intensive rehabilitation. A Thursday post from the Facebook page Bows for Bowman says: Day 20, from uncle neal. I can't describe how awesome today was. Today her mom was told she's GOING TO SHEPHERD TOMORROW!!! Attorney Confirms William Wilson Heaton is the Hit-and-Run Suspect in Athens, Ga.

Police continue gathering evidence against the suspect, but haven't yet made any arrests in the accident on Oconee Street.

Emily Bowman lies in a hospital bed in Athens Regional, recovering from severe injuries she sustained in a hit-and-run accident on Feb. 16. The man suspected of hitting her, and then leaving the scene of the accident, is William Wilson Heaton, 22, of Cartersville. He has yet to be arrested but does have an attorney who has been in touch with Athens Clarke County Police, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald. The police have logged hundreds of hours, trying to piece together the events of the night for Heaton, through interviews and camera footage, to establish where he was, and when, and what he was doing. Police Search for Hit-and-Run Driver in Oak Street Accident in Athens, Ga.

  Athens Clarke County Police are searching for the driver of a red Mazda pickup that allegedly hit and severely injured Emily Bowman as she walked on the grassy should of Oak Street with a companion early Saturday morning. Emily Bowman was in Athens to attend a friend's birthday party. She remains in a coma at Athens Regional, where she was taken after the incident. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, the pickup is registered to a 22-year-old Cartersville man, whose mother lives in Watkinsville and father in Lawrenceville. Neither the man nor his parents are cooperating with police, the story says. Also, police found a bottle of liquor inside the truck, the story says, and empty beer cans in the truck bed. Victim of Hit-and-Run Driver Is Kennesaw State University Student

  A 19-year-old Kennesaw State University student is fighting for her life after a hit-and-run driver struck her as she walked early Sunday morning near Oak Street. Emily Bowman of Woodstock was walking in the grass alongside Oak Street, between Carr and Oconee streets about 3:05am. A 1997 red Mazda pick up truck traveling eastbound on Oak Street left the roadway, hit her, then fled the scene, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Police located the vehicle a little later, but not the driver, according to a ACC Police report.
