Though Not out of the Woods, Hit-and-Run Victim Making Progress in Athens, Ga.

Emily Bowman's neurosurgeon says Emily's condition is slowly improving.

  Emily Bowman has been in a coma since a red Mazda pickup struck her early Saturday morning on Oak Street. But now, neurosurgeon Kimberly Walpert believes there is less chance of the 19-year-old's dying than there was when she arrived at Athens Regional. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, Dr. Walpert has so far removed part of Emily's skull--a procedure called a  craniectomy--to give her brain room to swell. She has also drained fluid from Emily's brain and removed a blood clot. Even though Emily is still comatose, the story says, Dr. Walpert says the injured young woman's brain is responding to stimulation and the brain activity is better than it was a few days ago. Hit-and-Run Victim Remains in Grave Condition at ARMC in Athens, Ga.

Emily Bowman is fighting for her life after she sustained brain injuries early Saturday morning.

  Emily Bowman, 19, remains in a coma and on a ventilator at Athens Regional Medical Condition. Her father Dale Bowman has remained with her around the clock, since he learned early Saturday morning that his daughter had been in a hit-and-run accident on Oak Street and was severely injured. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, Dale Bowman has been sleeping on a couch in the intensive care waiting room. He told the newspaper that the swelling and bleeding in his daughter's brain had subsided. Emily was walking with a friend on the grassy shoulder of Oak Street around 3am on Saturday, after going to a friend's birthday party. 'Bows For Bowman' Created For Woodstock Teen Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run

A Facebook page has been created for the Woodstock teenager who remains in critical condition after she was critically injured in a hit-and-run in Athens over the weekend. Bows For Bowman already has over 2,500 fans and has asked everyone to pray for the teenager. Emily Bowman, 19, a Kennesaw State University student, was in Athens to attend a friend's birthday party. As she walked with a companion on the grassy shoulder of Oak Street just after 3 a.m. Saturday, a pickup truck hit her and fled the scene. She remains in a coma at Athens Regional Medical Center, where she was taken after the incident.
