How to Have Happy--and Safe--Holidays in Athens, Ga.

The ACC Police Department offer these tips for having a safe and glorious holiday season.

  Personal Safety: *Always pay attention to your surroundings. Be aware of your environment. *Consider shopping with others. There is safety in numbers. *Avoid walking alone in dark, isolated areas –such as back parking lots. *Wear reflective clothing and dress comfortably. *Keep your wallet or purse close to your body. *Avoid carrying too many bags or packages. Keep your hands as free as possible. *Avoid carrying large amounts of cash –use an ATM/Debit card when possible. *Be careful to protect your identity. If you notice unusual banking or account activity, call the police and report it. Holiday Safety Tips from the Athens Clarke County Police Department

  The holiday season is upon us. Shoppers will be out and about looking for bargains, the perfect gift, or selecting items for the perfect dinner. Unfortunately, thieves will also be active. Chief Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr., reminds you to be aware of the following tips to help make your holiday season safer. While shopping, make sure your wallet or purse is secure. Keep your wallet in an inside jacket pocket if possible. Keep your purse closed so your wallet is not visible. Do not leave the purse unattended (i.e. in a shopping cart or a dressing room) – even for a few seconds. Purchased items should be placed in the trunk of your vehicle or covered in the back.
