Wal Mart the Impetus for Denson Recall Effort

Opponents believe Mayor Denson had unethical missteps on Wal Mart.

At 58 years old, Jim Daniels had never gotten involved in politics. He had never registered to vote, believing the process and the people were all corrupt. Until recently. Until the possibility materialized that a Wal Mart might be built on the edge of downtown Athens. Mayor Denson Reflects on Her Theft

Her husband's watch and class ring, and her diamond earrings, disappear.

  After Bob Denson died five years ago, his widow Nancy put away his watch and class ring. He wouldn’t be needing them, and she was in no hurry to give them to one of their children. She had already given her son the little jewelry that was Bob’s. And those diamond earrings, they were a present from her late husband. After his death, she didn’t find herself attending the sort of functions suitable for such sparkly jewelry. She just put them aside for a later day. A few months ago, she wanted to wear those earrings, but she couldn’t find them. “I thought I had misplaced them,” the Mayor said. So she wore something else. Crime Blotter--Mayor Denson among burglary victims

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

A Columbus Avenue residence was burglarized some time prior to 10pm on  February 12.  An Acer tablet valued at $800 was stolen.   Between 1pm on February 12 and 12:45pm on February 13, a Rocksprings Court residence was burglarized.  A TV, video consoles, a purse, cash, laptop, and jewelry were stolen.  The total value was $6,498.  The Athens Banner Herald says that Mayor Nancy Denson’s house was robbed sometime during the past several weeks. Denson told police on Friday afternoon that she was missing $1,600 worth of jewelry. Missing were diamond earrings, a 1976 University of Georgia class ring and a watch, She didn’t name any suspects, police said.
