UPDATE: Parent Abducts Child From Oconee Day Care Center, Sheriff's Office Says

The child has been found safe and the suspect is in custody.

11:05: The Sheriff's Office says the day care has been "completely cooperative and forthcoming." Investigators are conducting interviews and reviewing video tape provided by the child care facility. "We will release more information when we have a complete picture of what happened," according to the latest post by the OCSO on a Facebook thread. UPDATE: Athens Police Looking for Burglary Suspect

A search was conducted in the area of Luke Road in Bogart, Ga.

Authorities Wednesday afternoon were searching a section of Bogart for a suspect originally thought to have been involved in a home invasion. Athens-Clarke County Police later clarified, according to the Athens Banner-Herald, that a man kicked in a door to a residence in the area of Luke Road off of Fowler Mill Road, realized someone was home, and ran. Hilda Sorrow, ACCPD public information assistant, said a resident of the home had been sleeping around 1:10 p.m. when he heard a noise. The resident awoke to find a man standing in the hallway, so he grabbed a handgun and pointed it at the intruder, Sorrow said. Upon seeing the victim and the gun, the man fled. Oconee Business Owner Helps Catch Burglary Suspect

Daniven B. Parks was arrested on an Athens Transit bus Friday morning, four hours after Precision Transmission was burglarized, authorities say.

Update: 2:20 p.m.: Parks has also been charged with burglary in the second degree. The dollar amount for the theft by taking under new revisions of the law will make that charge a misdemeanor instead of a felony, authorities said. The owner of Precision Transmission for several weeks had suspected someone was burglarizing the business, so he set up surveillance cameras in hopes of catching the person responsible for the scrap metal thefts.  Authorities said those efforts paid off early Friday morning. Around 4 a.m., employees arrived at the work shop located at 2681 Monroe Highway to find a man inside, Oconee County Chief Deputy Lee Weems said. Police Pursuit Has Ended in Crash

EMS responding to crash after pursuit at 411 and the 10 Loop

The Athens Clarke County Police were involved in a vehicle pursuit today, July 3, at approximately 2:21 p.m. and according to the Oconee County Georgia Sheriff's Office website that pursuit ended in a crash at 441 and the 10 Loop at 2:25 p.m. The pursuit was initially reported to be on the 10 Loop and 441 headed back into Clarke County. No details on individuals involved or the details of the pursuit have been released at this time. EMS is currently responding.

Pickup Backs Over Fuel Line, Causes a Ruckus

An Athens, Ga., man is charged with DUI after the incident at Murphy's USA near the Epps Bridge Walmart.

A Ford pickup driven by an Athens man rode over a gasoline vapor line at the Murphy's gas station near the Epps Bridge Parkway Walmart on Saturday, causing concerns of an explosion and tying up the parking lot, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office Facebook Page. The line was used to pump fuel from a tanker truck to the underground gas tanks, according to the Sheriff's Office. Oconee County Fire Rescue and Wilson's Wrecker Service removed the pickup and secured the line. The pickup's driver was arrested on DUI charges. The Athens Banner-Herald identified the driver as 72-year-old Charles Griffith of Athens.

14 Pounds of Marijuana Found in Athens Man's Luggage During Traffic Stop

Justin Cornish, 28, of Woodlake Drive is charged with trafficking after an Oconee traffic stop.

About 14 pounds of marijuana were found during a traffic stop in Oconee County on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. A deputy spotted a Chevrolet Lumina traveling east on US 78 near its intersection with SR 53 and checked its tag after noticing its excessive window tint, according to a news release from the Oconee Sheriff's Office. A canine searched the vehicle after a search warrant was obtained, honing in on the trunk and a piece of luggage containing the marijuana, the news release noted. Justin Cornish, 28, of Woodlake Drive in Athens was charged with marijuana trafficking and canceled registration.  He was being held at the Oconee County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
