UGA Special Collections Libraries Launch Community Docent Program

Special Collections Libraries seek community volunteers for new docent program, to begin training in February 2013.

  The University of Georgia’s Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries is now accepting applications for participants in its docent program.   The Docent Corps is a skilled group of volunteers who provide tours of the library galleries to visitors, ranging from fifth graders to adults. Docents are trained to highlight permanent and rotating exhibitions and to help increase awareness of the many resources offered by the three special collections libraries: the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the Walter J. Brown Media Archive and Peabody Awards Collections and the Richard B. Happy Monday!

  DW Brooks Drive on the UGA Campus starting at Soule Street is closed today near the Boyd Graduate Studies building (and the UGA Science Library). Better find another way to get where you are going. Tomorrow is the Tuesday Tour at Two, when you can visit the fabulous Richard J. Russell Special Collections Building and see its treasures. The building contains media archives, historic books and maps, political papers and so much cool stuff, you wouldn’t believe it. The staff will take you on a tour of the galleries. On Wednesday, you can also take a Tour at Two, at the Georgia Museum of Art. There, the docents will lead you through some of the highlights of the museum’s extensive permanent collection.
