A woman walking on a trail last Friday at the State Botanical Garden managed to escape her assailant and to give GBI officials a description of the man.
If anyone recognizes this individual, believes they may know who he is or has any information about this incident, they are urged to contact the UGA Police Department at 706/542-0090 immediately.
Officers from several different law enforcement agencies searched for a suspect Friday night.
A woman was walking on a trail in the State Botanical Garden on Friday afternoon around 4:20. Suddenly, a tall, thin man approached her, put a knife to her neck and threatened to rape her. She managed to flee and call authorities. Law enforcement officials searched Friday night along and near South Milledge for a white man, six feet tall, about 150 pounds, with short blonde hair. According to the UGA Police Blog, the suspect was wearing a hooded green and white sweatshirt, blue sweatpants, a hooded green and white sweatshirt, black sunglasses and white running shoes. Authorities Friday evening were combing the area of the State Botanical Garden on South Milledge Avenue.
The Athens Clarke County Police, the University of Georgia Police and the Oconee County Sheriff's Department were on Friday evening hunting for a suspect in an attempted rape in the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. A man with a knife threatened to rape a woman as she walked on one of the many trails in the garden. After talking with the perpetrator, the UGA Police Blog says, but she was able to elude him and seek help. The woman called UGA Police to report the incident. She said it occurred about 4:20pm. Shortly before 7 p.m., the Oconee County Sheriff's Office sent out a Nixle alert advising that K-9s were deployed and patrol deputies were assisting with the search. Who doesn't love this wonderful weather we've been having? The evenings are so cool and comfortable, I feel like i'm in the mountains. The Occupy caravan, crossing the country en route to Philadelphia, is supposed to stop in Athens tomorrow at 6pm. Wonder what this may do to the traffic from AthFest? Guess we wait and see, no? From 9:30am to 12:30pm today, there's a class in digital photography of plants at the State Botanical Garden. What a good plant to shoot plants, inside and out. Cost is $50 for non-members and $45 for members. A big part of AthFest is KidsFest. There are things to do, hear and see, as well as inflatables. Wash those blankets and clean your picnic baskets. The summer Sunflower Music Series is beginning at the State Botanical Garden on June 12. There are four concerts during the next four months. Each two-hour concert begins at 7 p.m. on the stage of the Flower Garden, a terraced area between the Day Chapel and the Visitor Center and Conservatory. When is who playing? This incident may happen to everyone and without even knowing, it will also happen in our own family.
