Man Arrested After Falling Asleep in Street While Intoxicated

An Athens man was arrested for pedestrian under the influence Saturday after police found him sleeping in the middle of Berlin Street, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report. Anthony Zachary, 49, was found lying on his back in the middle of the street at about 4 a.m., snoring "very heavily," with his feet facing towards North Avenue. He smelled strongly of alcohol and had what appeared to be ketchup smeared over his shirt and right pants leg. After the police officer woke him Zachary got up and told the police officer he had been drinking vodka.
