Current Powerball Jackpot is Second-Largest in Game History

The jackpot for this Saturday's drawing is at $475 million, as the $350 million prize for Wednesday's drawing went unclaimed.

  If you thought $350 million was an impressive lottery prize, how about $475 million?  With no winner in the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, May 15, the jackpot has soared even higher for the Saturday, May 18 drawing.  According to an Associated Press article posted by Fox News, lottery officials expect jackpot totals of this size to continue to climb in shorter amounts of time following a game redesign in January 2012 that increased the odds of winning some kind of prize but also lowered the possible number combinations to win the Powerball. Now That the Powerball Jackpot is Over $300 Million, Will You Buy a Ticket?

With nobody winning the Powerball Jackpot in almost two months, the drawing Wednesday to a single winner will be more than $300 million.

Traditionally, the higher the jackpot payout in a lottery, the more people are prepared to share in the pot. With nobody winning since June 23, the Powerball Jackpot drawing for Wednesay now sits at $305 million, according to the Powerball Lottery website. This has a cash option payout of $203.3 million, before taxes. The drawing will be on Wednesday, Aug. 15 and the cost of a ticket is $2. I'm one of those quirky people who never buys a ticket unless it's so ridiculously high that my odds are greatly diminished anyway. I mean, seriously, why is it that I think a couple of million dollars isn't going to help me any, but a couple of hundred million will. My bills are really not that high.   more ›
