A former newspaper editor and radio disc jockey (under the alias of "Just Joe"), I currently work at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. I serve as director of diversity and high school outreach, and teach journalism. Basically, I encourage high school students to pursue journalism, teach them while they’re in college and help minority students discover the wonderful field of journalism. Because that’s not enough, I’m also pursuing my Ph.D in Mass Communication.
When I’m not working, I love rough housing with my three sons, Jaydon, Jackson and Matthew, and playing Wii with my wife Carla. I’m also a huge fan of high-quality TV, like Dexter, Weeds, Boardwalk Empire, Modern Family, Nurse Jackie, The Big Bang Theory and Glee. Born and raised on the southside of Chicago, I’m a die-hard White Sox and Bears fan, and cheer for the Kansas State Wildcats and of course, the Georgia Bulldogs.
